Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage relieves the tension and inflammation that accumulates in the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It’s commonly used to ease pain from injury. Many people think that Deep Tissue Massage has to hurt to be effective. That’s a myth! Susan uses slow, steady pressure to encourage the tight areas to loosen and eventually release. As with all of her massages, you choose the level of pressure that feels comfortable to you.
Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage:
• Relieves stress
• Reduces pain
• Rehabilitates injured muscles
• Increases joint flexibility
• Breaks up scar tissue
Myofascial Release (John Barnes Method) aka MFR
Myofascial Release (John Barnes Method) aka MFR
Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds the muscles. Healthy fascia is pliable and stretchy, allowing your body to move freely. Unhealthy or damaged fascia is tight and tough, which inhibits movement and causes pain. Because fascia is interconnected throughout the body, an injury in one area can lead to pain in another. For example, if you hurt your hip in a car accident, you can develop chronic pain in your neck. During a Myofascial Release session Susan focuses on the source of the problem and not just where you are feeling the pain.
This technique differs from a typical massage. Once an area of restriction is found in the fascia, Susan will gently stretch the area and then apply pressure for a period of time (90 seconds - five minutes) until the fascia loosens. This is repeated on the surrounding areas. This technique is performed directly on the skin, without creams or oils, for the most effective results.
Myofascial Release helps people with:
• Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
• Back Pain
• Sciatica
• Migraines or Chronic Headaches
• Whiplash
• Neck Pain
• Jaw Pain or TMJ
• Scoliosis
• Fibromyalgia
• Painful scars
